Learning to Teach
Learning is an experiential process that extends beyond just going to classes and taking notes. In order to fully encompass learning, you have to put theory into practice in order to discover what you know and what works for you. Learning by living is what I would call ACTIVE learning. I find that the more opportunities I have to reflect on these life events the more I can take away from the experience of living. It is for this exact reason that I am making this blog: I want to document and reflect upon the opportunities I have had teaching in order to grow as an educator.
My First Practicum
I did my first practicum in 2010 at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre in Sidney, B.C. I didn't think of making a blog then, but I still would like to mention it as a wonderful teaching experience. I learned a lot from that first 3 week practicum, including how inspirational a fieldtrip can be for learning. I got to run a number of school group tours through the centre and had to learn a lot about marine animals in order to do that!
